“Sean, I lost $xxxx using your strategy.”
I’ll never forget those words.
It was 2010, after I ran my very first Options class. One student told me he lost everything… even though I had been consistently profiting with the same approach. Other students were winning too.
So how could the same strategy give such different results?
That question haunted me for years. It even pushed me to become a licensed portfolio manager — so I could directly manage money and stop seeing people blow up their accounts.
But recently, I was sharing this story with my friend Charmaine. She laughed and said:
"Sean, that’s because you assume everyone is wired like you. You’re a Type 8 — decisive, bold, and built to thrive under pressure. But for someone with a different wiring, the exact same strategy could backfire."
That was my “aha” moment. The missing piece isn’t just about knowledge or discipline — it’s about personality wiring.
Charmaine explained that there are 9 distinct money personalities — and each one approaches risk, decisions, and wealth very differently. When you match your strategy to your wiring, success flows. But when you fight it, even the smartest advice can fail.
Here’s a quick taste of what she shared with me:
🔹 Type 1 – The Reformer: Trusts rules and authority, but risks missing growth by sticking only to “safe” or traditional paths.
🔹 Type 2 – The Helper: Generous to a fault, but may lose money by staying loyal to people instead of good investments.
🔹 Type 3 – The Achiever: Loves results, but can fall into chasing performance without a solid process.
🔹 Type 4 – The Individualist: Drawn to unique, meaningful investments, but risks ignoring fundamentals.
🔹 Type 5 – The Investigator: Knowledge seekers who can get stuck in “paralysis by analysis” and never take action.
🔹 Type 6 – The Loyalist: Security-driven, but often too cautious, over-diversifying or hoarding cash.
🔹 Type 7 – The Enthusiast: Excited by trends and new opportunities, but vulnerable to FOMO and “shiny object syndrome.”
🔹 Type 8 – The Challenger: Confident and decisive, but sometimes too overconfident — taking outsized risks.
🔹 Type 9 – The Peacemaker: Values comfort and stability, but risks drifting by avoiding important financial decisions.
The big insight? The same financial advice can lead to completely different outcomes depending on your type.
That’s why I asked Charmaine to do a special private session for my community:
